A strong 2-0 end to August. We are 20-12 betting on the NBA Playoffs thus far.

The Miami Heat had an outstanding second half to shutdown the Milwaukee Bucks and steal game one. We took them with the points here, but they weren’t needed as the Heat won 115-104. The story of this game is Giannis Antetokounmpo who had his worst game in a long time with just 18 points. He still had 10 rebounds and 9 assists, but even that rebound number has to be considered disappointing. The defense really locked on him and he wasn’t able to make them pay at the free throw line, shooting just 4-for-12 from the charity stripe. When you lose by 11, that hurts. Jimmy Butler showed up huge with 40 points for Miami.

The Thunder managed to force game seven off a great performance from Chris Paul. We took the points with the Thunder, but again they weren’t needed as they ended up winning this one outright 104-100. This game had the kind of fourth quarter that people criticize James Harden and Russell Westbrook. There were plays when Westbrook took bad shots that didn’t go in and plays where Harden seemed to not want the ball. Both of them will need to look better in game seven if the Rockets are to win this series.

The playoffs roll on with two games tonight including a big game seven between the Nuggets and Jazz that I absolutely cannot wait for. Let’s get into it.

Boston Celtics vs. Toronto Raptors Betting Tips:

The Celtics looked great in game one and the Raptors looked like crap, but that isn’t going to deter me here. The Raptors have shown in the past that they will screw up a game one and then come back in game two looking like a completely different team.

That shouldn’t be too hard to do based on how the box score from game one looks. 13 points for Siakam, 17 points from Lowry, and 11 points for Fred VanVleet. That is just not the type of production they usually get from these guys and I am thinking the starters are going to have a much better game here.

I am not going to read too much into it because I like the Raptors regardless, but Kemba Walker tweaked his knee in the last game and he’s had trouble with leg injuries dating back to the All Star game when he played way too many minutes. This is a team that is already down Gordon Hayward so a less than Walker could be a big blow to them.

We’ll have to monitor that situation, but for now I think the Raptors are evening this thing up easily.

Bet Raptors -1.5

Utah Jazz vs. Denver Nuggets Betting Tips:

How good has this series been? Well, Donovan Mitchell and Jamal Murray are #1 and #2 in points per game in the playoffs thus far. This has been a battle reminiscent of the Allen Iverson/Vince Carter first round series from the early 2000s, but so much more so. I’m really excited to see what these two do tonight and I would not hesitate betting the over on their individual point totals. Donovan Mitchell’s O/U point total is 33.5 while Murray’s is 31.5. I’d be surprised if both didn’t go over and shocked if neither did.

The sportsbooks seem to be counting on the usual game seven ugliness with this total, but I am not buying it. That’s not how these teams play and that’s not how they are going to win. We’ve seen the over in five of the six games in this series and I think we see a sixth here.

Bet Jazz/Nuggets Over 217.5
