In a lot of ways the month of August is like the calm before the storm. The NBA and NHL are still on break while the NFL is just starting to gear up. September will have a much fuller schedule of sports, but that doesn’t mean there is nothing good going on in August. Quite the opposite.
One of the biggest events of the month will be the end of the PGA season. The BMW Championship and then the TOUR Championship will wrap up the 2022 season. There is still some seeding to be fought for in the playoffs. The current leader in FedEx Cup standings in Scottie Scheffler. He’s up big at the time of this writing so he will be hard to knock off for that title.
On August 20th, we’ll also have UFC 278 which has the main event of Usman vs. Edwards 2. This is their rematch from a 2015 fight when both were unkowns. Usman won that fight in three rounds by unanimous decision, but this fight will be much different than that one as both fighters have grown and improved.
MLB is reaching the final stretch of the season and there are a lot of good games this month. The Padres were the big winner at the trade deadline and they will get plenty of opportunities to show off their new lineup. Baseball fans should also enjoy the Little League World Series taking place this month.
I mentioned NFL above and this month we finally get our first look at the 2022 season. Jacksonville and Las Vegas kick things off on August 4th with the annual Hall of Fame game. Speaking of football, we also have the UEFA Super Cup match on the 10th with Real Madrid and Eintracht facing off.
All that plus the finals of the G1 Climax, MLS All-Star Game, WNBA Playoffs, and much more. A lot of great sports this month.
