The name of the game in baseball right now is keep everybody healthy. Last night we saw Andrew Miller of the Indians go down with an apparent knee injury. Miller, of course, was a big key of their playoff run last season and they’ll be needing him if they want to again reach the World Series. He was arguably the MVP of the whole thing last year until the Cubs won. Miller is said to have re-aggravated his knee injury which isn’t expected to be serious.

LA is the best team in baseball this year, but the Dodgers are still slowly nursing Clayton Kershaw back to health. They’ve also seen Cody Bellinger miss a couple of games with an ankle injury and Darvish hit the 10-day disabled list. You have to think that the Dodgers are just being overly cautious with these stars as they want them at 100% heading into the playoffs.

Meanwhile, the Twins just sent Miguel Sano to the disabled list which could seriously harm their Wild Card hopes. The Angels are just 0.5 games back of their spot while the Mariners are one game back. Seattle will be getting back David Phelps, Felix Hernandez and James Paxton soon which could swing this race in their favor.

It’s all about being healthy at the right time and some teams are luckier than others in that category.

MLB Betting Tips:

The Dodgers play at Pittsburgh again tonight and they send Brock Stewart to the mound against Jameson Tailon. Stewart has had a great season in Triple-A, but is yet to see that translate to MLB success. Tailon has a 4.64 ERA on the year and while he’s had a decent season, he’s been hit a bit harder in home starts. Also, this is the Dodgers +100 and they can hit just about anyone. Even without Bellinger.

Baltimore hosts Oakland tonight and the total on this one is huge. The Orioles send Ubaldo Jimenez to the mound so it makes sense from one side, but Paul Blackburn of the Athletics has actually pitched well this year. He’s started nine games this year and holds a 3.46 ERA. He did, however, give up four runs to the Orioles in 5 2/3 inning two starts ago. That said, I still think this total is way too high and I’m going under 11 runs tonight.

Seattle is once again making a push to the playoffs as they’ve won four of their past five games. They face the lowly Braves tonight with Marco Gonzales on the mound. Gonzales has had a couple of good starts that unraveled quickly. He’ll hope to break through tonight, but he’ll get a quick hook if he doesn’t. The Mariners offense against Lucas Sims and his 5+ ERA is much more exciting and I’m on them. Mariners -111.

Milwaukee is another team still fighting for a playoff spot. They send their ace Jimmy Nelson to the mound against the Giants tonight. Nelson is slowly figuring out and becoming a higher level pitcher in this league. A match-up against the Giants sad offense should make him look great tonight and the Brewers -105 should win this one.
