Four NBA tips for February 15th, 2022.

A 4-3 record last week brings us to 65-43 on the season.

We are in the last few days before the NBA All-Star break so it’s kind of a dead time in the league, but there are still some values tonight.

Boston Celtics at Philadelphia 76ers Betting Tips:

The Celtics are red hot right now winning eight straight and ten out of their past eleven games. They have joined the very crowded field atop the Eastern Conference. Their offense has been great during this stretch, but it has really been the defense that has been carrying them. Over their past ten games they have a 95.4 Defensive Rating.

Philly will be without James Harden through the All-Star break so they are especially weakened right now on the offensive end after trading away Seth Curry. My original gut reaction here was to go with the Sixers, but I just don’t think they have enough firepower to keep up against a hot team.

Indiana Pacers at Milwaukee Bucks Betting Tips:

The Bucks played without Giannis last night and lost to the lowly Blazers. They now face the Pacers on the second half of a back-to-back. They may have Giannis back here, but that’s not really why I am looking at this one.

The reason this one stuck out is because of the total. Over the past ten games, these are two of the worst four defenses in the NBA. The Bucks have just been bleeding points of late with a 117.5 Defensive Rating over that stretch. The Pacers are somehow even worse with a 122.2 Defensive Rating.

Both teams have been putting up points of late and I expect them both to do so here.

Memphis Grizzlies at New Orleans Pelicans Betting Tips:

This will be the third game in four nights for the Pelicans and the second half of a back-to-back.

Memphis has won five straight and eight of the past nine games. They come into this game with two days of rest, but Ja Morant is listed as questionable here.

I’m hoping he plays, but I think that the Grizzlies can handle a tired team without him. This team is deep and plays cohesively. Those are two things I wouldn’t say about the Pelicans right now.

Pick: Bet Grizzlies -4.5

Los Angeles Clippers at Phoenix Suns Betting Tips:

Another third game in four nights and the second half of a back-to-back. The Clippers got the win last night against the Warriors, but now face a much different challenge in the Suns.

Phoenix is just on another level from every other NBA team right now. They’ve five straight and sixteen out of their past seventeen. They should win again here and the only question is: will they able to cover this big spread?

The Clippers will be without Paul George, Luke Kennard, and Norman Powell for this one. Powell was supposed to solve some of their offensive woes, but now he’s on the shelf. A bottom-five offense with one of the best defenses in the league is a situation where I’m willing to lay the big points.
