Things are starting to heat up in the NBA as the trade deadline looms. We’ve already seen one of the biggest trades of the past few seasons as Blake Griffin left his Clipper home to head to the Detroit Pistons. This is a big move for both sides, but the internet has already written millions of words on it and I’ll save you my thoughts.

Blake Griffin should make his debut for the Pistons tonight as they host the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies have had a really rough year as they lose Mike Conley early and everything fell apart. One of the few bright spots this year has been Tyreke Evans and he has been the subject of many trade rumors. His trade seems inevitable so the Grizzlies are going to be holding him out until a deal is done. As things get better for the Pistons, they get considerably worse for Memphis.

The NHL is back from the All-Star Break as well and tonight we have a full slate of games. Plenty to bet tonight so let’s jump right into it.

NBA Betting Tips:

The Pistons -8 are a great pick tonight. This team really showed up in the first game after the trade, beating Cleveland at home and this is a far better match-up than that. The Grizzlies are essentially punting on their season and Marc Gasol is their only true high-level NBA player. He’ll be forced to deal with Andre Drummond and Blake Griffin in this one and I don’t like the way that is going to turn out for him. The Pistons are a great play tonight as they make their way towards a potential playoff spot.

The Bucks have really shown up since they fired Jason Kidd and the defense has looked great. They get their biggest test of the season tonight as they head to Minnesota to take on the Timberwolves. Minnesota’s offense has been elite this season, but their defense has left a lot to be desired. It’s only a four game sample (and the team’s aren’t the greatest), but Milwaukee has a 97.4 Defensive Rating since firing Kidd and is 4-0 during that timespan. That’s a difference of about 10 points per game and we’ll see how real that number is tonight. This will be their biggest test and I think they’ll do well, Bucks +5.5 is my pick.

NHL Betting Tips:

Edmonton has been a prolonged offensive slump all season which is insane when you consider the presence of Conor McDavid. They are only averaging 2.8 goals per game on the season and it’s hard to win with a low number like that. They draw a great match-up tonight against a Colorado team that is allowing nearly four goals per game. Edmonton has been hot of late as well, winning four of five and scoring 3+ in all of them. The Oilers -135 are a great pick tonight at home and they should have no problem scoring this evening.
