Tomorrow is the MLB trade deadline and you have to be careful making bets today because you never know who might get moved. A pitcher scheduled to start tonight could easily be scratched and traded. There are a ton of teams in contention right now and a ton of players who are ready to be moved.

The only real moves since yesterday have been Jason Vargas to the Phillies and Jordan Lyles to the Brewers. These are just minor moves and I expect to see some names moved over the next night or two.

We have three tips today and they should avoid some of the trade deadline woes I spoke of above. Let’s get into them.

MLB Betting Tips:

Tampa Bay Rays at Boston Red Sox: The Red Sox are one of the strongest teams in baseball against right-handed pitching and just about the hottest team in baseball right now. They are coming off a big series win against the Yankees and look to solidify their place atop the Wild Card in this series with the Rays.

The Rays send Charlie Morton, a very good pitcher but also a right hander. Like most pitchers he is slightly worse on the road and this is a tough place to pitch. I can see this being a short outing for him. Which could be a bad thing as the Rays bullpen has a 114 FIP- over the past two weeks.

David Price of the Red Sox has been lights out at home this year. He has a 2.89 ERA/2.40 FIP at Fenway Park while the Rays are a below average team against left-handed pitching. This is a nice match-up for Boston and my favorite play of the day.

Bet Red Sox -137

Minnesota Twins at Miami Marlins: I have no idea how this line isn’t bigger. The Marlins are not good and the Twins are very good. It’s that simple.

Zac Gallen is having a good season for Miami, but he’s actually been worse at home with a 4.50 ERA/4.03 FIP. The Twins are one of the top hitting teams in baseball against right handed pitchers with a 120 wRC+. The Marlins bullpen has been bad all season and even worse of late so I am puzzled with this line a bit.

Jake Odorizzi has a 3.84 ERA/4.04 FIP on the season and this is a nice match-up against a below average offense. The Twins bullpen has been great on season and on fire of late. This is an easy play.

Bet Twins -138

Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals: Despite some better results of late, I still don’t fully trust Yu Darvish. He has a 4.54 ERA/4.85 FIP with big strikeout numbers, but homeruns have been a problem for him this year.

The Cardinals send Adam Wainwright who has been great at home this year. He has a 2.33 ERA/3.56 FIP in his home starts this year and is facing a Cubs team that is ice cold right now. They have a 73 wRC+ over their past two weeks. The Cardinals bullpen has been hot of late as well and I think they are worth a play here.
