Baseball can be a tricky sport. You have all this data and all these reasons why things should happen a certain way. Then those things you think will happen do happen, but the result isn’t what you think it should be based on those things. It makes no sense.

Yesterday’s Indians/Yankees game was a good example. We had the Indians and Trevor Bauer was on the mound. He pitched six innings, struck out eight, walked three and allowed only two hits. A good game against a great offense. Well, a throwing error by Francisco Lindor allowed two runs to score in the fifth inning that ended up deciding the game. The Yankees added one more to win 5-2, but maybe Ben Taylor isn’t in the game if it’s 2-2. Maybe they manage a bit more aggressively with the win on the line. You just don’t know. I hate losses like that.

Kansas City and Detroit was a game we had the over on, but those lineups… woof. The Tigers had ten hits off Jason Hammel, but only managed three runs. The 2-3-4 hitters for the Royals combined for an 0-for-11. This one wasn’t ever going to be an easy over, but I definitely feel like they let some stuff on the table. An 0-2 record last night.

I spent most of my day yesterday looking at stats. Making sure that I am not missing anything. Making sure I still know this league. There’s a couple trends I’ve maybe missed, but overall I am feeling good. This is just a tough little stretch. It’ll be evening itself out soon. How about today?

Minnesota Twins vs. Chicago White Sox Betting Tips:

This one is right in my wheelhouse. The winds should be around 25mph blowing out to right. James Shields is on the mound and he is my absolute favorite pitcher to jump on. Kyle Gibson, while decent, has been outperforming his projections and could have a tough day against this White Sox offense that hits righties well. On top of that, the Twins bullpen is the one of the worst in the league with a 5.68 ERA/5.08 FIP. This line is only set at nine? Give me all the runs in this one.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Milwaukee Brewers Betting Tips:

In my research yesterday, I was surprised to see just how much the Brewers have been carried by their bullpen early in the season. They are 2nd in ERA and 3rd in FIP among all teams. Josh Hader is obviously a huge part of that, but on day’s like today when they have a decent starter on the mound they are almost unbeatable. Chase Anderson is their nominal ace and he draws a nice match-up against the Pirates. They started off hot, but have just a .712 OPS against righties on the year.

Chad Kuhl is coming off a start in which he got pounded by the Nationals. Four earned runs in 4.2 innings. Their offense has underperformed early, but I like this match-up. Travis Shaw and Christian Yelich are great against righties. This just feels like a Brewers line and the moneyline should be higher.
