NBA Tips: August 7th, 2020

The story of the bubble so far has been the Phoenix Suns. Is that right? Are my notes correct? Yes, apparently.

The Suns are undefeated in the bubble thus far at 4-0 and with the Grizzlies being 0-4 thus far there is a real chance that we see a play-in. The Blazers are also 3-1 and now sit just a half game behind the Grizzlies for the 8th seed. Heading into the bubble it appeared that the Pelicans were going to be the team to make that move, but they have struggled and Zion Williamson has seen his minutes limited. Their playoff hopes are slim right now, but the Grizzlies are definitely in danger of losing their spot.

The other big news of the bubble is really no news at all as the Bucks clinched the top seed in the East. We were going to need to see some really weird stuff happen for them to fall out of this spot so them clinching it is no surprise. The Raptors right behind them with the second seed is also no surprise. Now, it’s all about the seeding in the East as the 3-6 seeds are close. While the Nets and Magic duke it out to see who gets swept by the Raptors and who gets swept by the Bucks.

We are halfway through the bubble and getting closer to playoffs time. A quick look at the sports calendar shows the play-in happening on the 15th and 16th (if necessary) before the full playoffs start on the 17th. I can’t wait.

Orlando Magic vs. Philadelphia 76ers Betting Tips:

It was a lifetime ago, but the last time these two teams played in December the Magic got the win. If the 76ers remember that game they are going to be out for revenge here.

The Sixers are also a much improved team since then as well. The addition of Josh Richardson and health of Shake Milton has been huge for them and I think they should roll here. This team has put up huge points in two of their three games in the bubble and if they can do that again, the Magic won’t be able to keep up. They simply don’t have the firepower.

This line is fair, but I think the Sixers have a good potential to blow this one out.

Bet Sixers -5

Boston Celtics at Toronto Raptors Betting Tips:

The other undefeated team in the bubble is the Toronto Raptors at 3-0. The Raptors are just a well-coached, deep team that can play any style and compete with any team. There is a lot to like about them and I think they are set-up for a deep run into the playoffs.

The Celtics are 2-2 in the bubble with the two losses coming against East playoff teams. They lost to the Bucks and Heat, and I think they add a third loss to the Raptors here. Kemba Walker has been working his way back from injury, Jayson Tatum has been uneven thus far, and the offense seems to be evolving as it goes. That’s a good thing for the team in the long term, but against a team like the Raptors who know exactly who they are and exactly what they do well – it’s not going to end well.

The Raptors continue their bubble dominance with a win today.

Bet Raptors -2
