PDC UK Open 2012 Day Four Afternoon Session Premium Picks

Such a frustrating night last night, with one winner and two picks losing 9-8, having had decent leads during their matches. We ended up with a +0.2 profit on the night, taking us up to +1.64 units for the tournament, with two sessions left of the UK Open.

We’ve got 8 top players, no amateurs and definitely no Speedy Hire employees left in the event. We’ve lost James Wade, Gary Anderson, and Adrian Lewis amongst the others, but we’ve still got Phil Taylor, Raymond van Barneveld and Wes Newton flying the flag for the PDC’s top 8. Add in Terry Jenkins and the PDC’s top 10 are well represented. Then we have Dave Chisnall, Jamie Caven, Denis Ovens and Robert Thornton completing the line up, with all but one in the top 32.

The final session of the day starts in a couple of hours, and we’ve got 7 matches left before the winner of the 2012 UK Open is crowned. Let’s get on to the tips.

Robert Thornton to beat Wes Newton: 5/2 @ Stan James.

Recommend: 1 units

A small one to start the day, and it’s only because I’m unsure of Wes Newton’s fitness. He’s said he was ill during his match against Adrian Lewis, and a 17 leg match against Kim Huycrehts isn’t going to make him feel any better. Robert Thornton had an early night, with his match finishing second, while Newton was the last many off the stage last night. It should be close, and 5/2 for a player coming back into form against a man who might not be 100% is worth a little punt.

Dave Chisnall to beat Raymond van Barneveld: 8/11 @ 888.com.

Recommend: 2 units.

A match that everyone will be interested in, whether they have a bet on it or not. Both men are capable of greatness, and everyone wants to see Barney back to winning ways, but I think there’s a lot of people, myself included, who want to see Dave Chisnall prove himself to be a top contender for all PDC tournaments. Chisnall is coming into the match in amazing form, averaging over 100 in his match against Simon Whitlock last night. I think he’s looking good for a place in the final.

Denis Ovens to beat Jamie Caven: 10/11 @ 888.com.

Recommend: 2.5 units.

Final match of the quarter-finals, and we have two men who were woefully out of form play some great darts the past few days and get into the quarter-finals of a PDC major. The one thing that sets Ovens ahead of Caven is the fact he’s got pedigree here, and as Wes Newton showed against Adrian Lewis, form in this tournament counts for a lot. Oven’s average in the last round was a fraction of a point greater than Caven’s, so they’re both playing around the same level. I just think Oven’s class at the venue will shine through, and I’m surprised he’s not favourite.

That’s all the Premium Tips for the first session of the final day of the UK Open. I’ll be back with tips for the final session of Sunday’s play at the UK Open. Until then, enjoy the darts and let’s get some winners!
