The day the world has been waiting for is finally here and tonight we will have NFL football on our televisions. It’s been a long time since Tom Brady and the Patriots defeated the Seahawks in the Super Bowl (I’m still stinging from that last Seahawks pass) and a lot has happened around the league in that time. Yet football will start just as it ended last season, with Tom Brady under center for the Patriots. We’ve been thinking about this game for months so of course we have a nice tip for it tonight. We also have plenty of MLB action on that slate so let’s just get right into our tips for NFL Kickoff Thursday.

NFL Betting Tips:

The Steelers and Patriots always put on a good show and tonight should be no exception. The Patriots open as huge -7 favorites and the Super Bowl champions are looking strong coming into this one. A big reason for this line is that Le’Veon Bell, the Steelers top running back, is out for this one. Pretty much anyone in the league is a downgrade from Bell and he’s a big part of the Steelers offense. The Patriots should win this one, but laying seven points on the road is a lot to ask. What we really like tonight is under 51.5 points for both teams in this game. The weather forecast shows 9 MPH winds and rain before, during and after the game. Passing won’t come easy in this one thanks to that rain and it should keep the scoring down enough for this one to go under the posted total.

MLB Betting Tips:

A huge series is supposed to kick off in New York between the Yankees and Blue Jays who are currently battling for the AL East title, but the same weather that is hitting the Steelers/Patriots game should hit New York and rain that one out. It’ll probably also hit the Phillies/Cubs game that leaves us with just six games to work with today.

Alfredo Simon of the Tigers is one of my favorite pitchers to target against and tonight against Cleveland offers a good opportunity to do so. He faced the Indians just under a week ago and only allowed two runs. What he does is fresh in the minds of the hitters and they should have better luck today against him. He is a very hittable pitcher with an ERA near 5 on the season and I like the Indians to score today. The Indians send Danny Salazar to the mound and he should give up a few runs to this dangerous Detroit offense. Over 8 runs is a great play here today.

For some reason the Brewers always hit well against the Pittsburgh Pirates. They aren’t a great team this season, but they have success against Pittsburgh. Tonight they get AJ Burnett on the mound who is just returning from a DL stint. In his previous three starts he gave up 10+ hits in each one of them and had the look of a guy who was becoming washed up. If the Brewers do what they usually do against the Pirates, they will score some runs today. Milwaukee sends Wily Peralta to the mound today who is coming off of a dead arm injury. That is just as bad as it sounds and I like the Pirates to hit him well today. Over 8 runs should come in easily if these two pitchers do what we expect them to do.
