On June 28th, 2014 Colombia will take on Uruguay on the first day of the World Cup knockout stages. The winner of Colombia vs Uruguay will play against the winner of Brazil vs Chile. Brazil vs Chile takes place earlier that day.

Colombia got here by winning all 3 of their group games. They beat Greece, Ivory Coast and Japan to qualify from Group C. They managed to do it in an impressive style too with little doubt in any of the games – despite never fully excelling in any of the games either.

Uruguay qualified at the death after beating 10-men Italy 1-0. They qualified in 2nd place in Group D, with Costa Rica taking top spot. Uruguay however will most likely be without Luis Suarez for this game, due to the fact that he is an utter moron. We all saw how they play without him – they looked horrendous against the Costa Ricans. Even against Italy and England, they didn’t look that strong.

What We’ve Learned:

Colombia: The Colombians are a team that don’t value possession, and it has worked out very well for them in doing so. They’ve had the least possession in every game they’ve played in the Group stages, yet have came out easy winners every time. Colombia loved to play wide, held up well against the Ivory Coast full backs, have looked solid on the counter attack. They also know how to mark out specific threats, such as against Japan with the marking on Honda by Mejja.

Uruguay: If it wasn’t for Luis Suarez, we wouldn’t even be sitting here discussing Uruguay. They looked dreadful against Costa Rica. And while Costa Rica do deserve respect – you still have to look at that game and wonder what it would be like if Suarez was there. They gifted possession, and even in the other two games against England and Italy, they really struggled and it required the usual magic of Suarez. Without him in the squad you have to hope they all band together to succeed.

Colombia vs Uruguay Betting Tips:

To no-ones surprise, the Colombians go into this one as favourites. Yet if Suarez was in the squad, Uruguay would surely be the favourites.

It’s pretty simple here – bet Colombia to win in 90 minutes. They’re most likely going to do it. I’d also bet the Over 2.5 goals. Defensively they are quite good but still conceded against Ivory Coast and Japan. Uruguay are a bit fruitful up front but might be able to get a goal. Either way, the Colombian counter attack as it pushes out wide can be lethal.

Bet Colombia to win, and consider the Over 2.5 .

Colombia vs Uruguay Betting Props:

You have a team who are horrible in possession, against a team that don’t need possession to score – this could end up being a massive victory for the Colombians.

I think it’s worth betting on that. The odds are quite nice at 5/2 for Colombia -1. -2 is even more prettier at 13/2.

This is the type of bet where I will usually risk my winnings. So for example – if I bet $100 on Colombia to win, I will win $100. I will then take that $100 and risk it on Colombia -2. If Colombia win by less than 3 goals then I break even, if they win I profit nice and big.

Bet on the Colombia handicap. -1 is recommended, -2 at 13/2 is a nice price.
