June 24th, 2014 brings about the best part of the World Cup – where both final group games are being played at the same time. This means results elsewhere matter, and you’re watching both games at once in what are always intense affairs.

Japan take on Colombia, with the South Americans already qualified. In what is rather interesting however – the team that wins this group isn’t guaranteed the easier game. It could be that the team that wins this group has to face Italy or Uruguay, as opposed to Costa Rica.

Colombia have topped the group after solid performances against both Greece and Ivory Coast. Japan meanwhile have not been very impressive at all. They got a lead against the Ivory Coast which they blew, and then they couldn’t break down a 10 man Greece team.

Japan can win this game yet that doesn’t mean they qualify – they NEED Greece to win but not beat the goal difference that they have. So it’s got to be a bit of a flat feeling in the Japanese camp.

However already qualified, how will Colombia feel? Will they be motivated for this one? I haven’t been sold by the Colombians yet, and I could see some slack play here so it’s going to be interesting.

Colombia vs Japan Betting Tips:

Based on those betting odds alone, I think we have to go with Colombia to win.

That’s a great price for a team that has won both of their games against opposition that Japan has failed to beat.

I’m not fully sold on Colombia yet – not by a long shot. Against Ivory Coast they only had 44% possession, and they couldn’t control the game. Even after going up 2-0 it was still a very shaky team who looked good with the ball, but you kept waiting for the ball to fall.

But at a price better than evens on a team who has already won both their games – it’s hard not to take them? A draw is a good scenario as well. But I can’t go with Japan at those odds. They haven’t impressed anywhere near enough – and you can’t go with them on the basis of “well they need to win to qualify”. They also really needed to beat Ivory Coast and Greece to qualify and they failed to do that!

Nope – Colombia all the way here. Go with the South Americans to keep their 100% record and pick up the big win against Japan.

Bet Colombia to win at.

Colombia vs Japan Betting Props:

No real betting props I like here.

This game could start off tight though – so if you like Colombia, then the Draw-Colombia is a good price and I’m going to throw some cash on that. I mean 4/1 odds for that? That’s an absolutely massive price honestly for what is a very likely scenario. I’d go with 2/1 on that myself, so 4/1 is a gift.

Bet Draw-Colombia as Half Time/Full Time result.
